Midnight Thoughts delivered a strapping Oasis Dream colt foal at 11.45 on 28/03/21. The team have affectionately called him Hugo and weighing in at 61.5kg's he is goods strong and healthy. The colt is full brother to AppleTree's Tomorrow's Dream who is listed placed and rated 98 which makes Hugo's addition very exciting indeed.
Tomorrow's Dream (Oasis Dream x Midnight Thoughts17) was a welcome winner on Tuesday night at Chepstow in the Blackwood Engineering Handicap over 7f. She gets us off the mark for 2020 and looks like she will progress. She was not 100% happy on the undulations of Chepstow and Tom Marquand did a fantastic job of keeping her balanced before producing her to win nicely by a length from Clive Cox's gelding Top Secret.
Tomorrow's Dream (Oasis Dream x Midnight Thoughts) ran a very promising race last night at Newcastle racecourse in the Ladbrokes Where The Nation Plays Maiden Stakes (Class 5) (2yo) 6f Standard, she was slightly slowly away and ran a little green before finding room near the stands rail. She was asked for an effort before 1f out and stayed on the same pace to finish 5th beaten 2 1/2 length by the Karl Burke trained Splendidly. I couldn't help being a little disappointed after seeing her work where she looked great and work with zest, but that being said William Haggas's 2yo's always improve for a run and she clearly has plenty of ability. The plan now is to get Tomorrow's Dream a win at 2 before mapping out a 3yo career. In the cold light of day we are very happy with her and the fact that Midnight Thoughts her dam is producing good athletes is also a major positive. From 3 foals of racing age Midnight Thoughts has produced 2 winners, Three Weeks rated 93 and Funny man rated 86, Tomorrow's Dream will make 3 from 3 at some stage and fingers crossed be a black type performer. She has a Shalaa filly yearling and is in-foal to the mighty Kingman which is very exciting and the future looks bright.
Gold Maze (Golden Horn x Astonishing) has been entered for next seasons Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. Being Astonishing's second foal makes the entry very exciting for us here at AppleTree. We are aware that its a long way off but Jessica Harrington must hold the horse in some sort of regard. Gold Maze third in the Beresford was a fantastic update and being the type of horse that looks like he will improve at 3 do we dare to dream? I also feel that the farm is beginning to prove itself, The first 4 runners from AppleTree have been or appear to be useful. Besides Gold Maze, Three Weeks won 3 Races and is Rated 90, High of 93, Funny Man a Winner 3 times at 3yo and is rated 83, Far Rockaway last week showed ability with a staying on fifth at Chelmsford and looks a sure future winner. We are hoping that these results continue and enhance the reputation of AppleTree Stud and form a degree of trust in future sales.
Gallaside follows up his Newcastle novice win at Nottingham on Nursery debut. Running off an opening mark of 77 proved lenient as he dictated the race from start to finish under a well judged front running ride from Hollie Doyle. The step up to the mile for the first time seemed to help Gallaside who looks sure to need further than that in time. The plan going forward is to let Gallaside progress naturally as whatever he is doing at this stage is a bonus. Archie Watson has done a fantastic job at placing him thus far.
