Joss’s Jewels 6th July – Hoping Salute The Soldier can march to victory at Sandown
NAP – ENBIHAAR 2:40 HAYDOCK 11/4
Enbihaar finished a close second to reopposing rival Dramatic Queen at York in May, where the step up to 1m6f arguably stretched her stamina. She had to do her own donkey work that day and led until the dying strides where Dramatic Queen picked up the pieces late on. The drop back to 1m4f today is much more her optimum and with the forecast quick ground to suit, there’s plenty of reasons to believe the places can be reversed here. Klassique won well last time in the mud over course and distance last time, but at Goodwood in May Enbihaar had the measure of her and Klassique seems to have her work cut out to change the result this time.
NB (Next Best) – Salute The Soldier 2:25 Sandown 14\1
Salute The Soldier showed a liking for quick ground at Bath when just pipped by Petrus in April and has shown a progressive profile in recent starts. Quite lightly raced for his age, he clearly has not been the easiest to train. He started favourite for a competitive handicap at Newbury in May in first time cheekpieces and frankly he was just too keen for his own good that day and its no surprise to see the cheekpieces left off this time. Its fair to say his form has been better on the all weather so far in his career but there is no reason why he cannot be as good on turf and he's worth a chance each way in an open looking handicap. He will need need a bit of luck from stall 1 but at an opening show of 10/1, there's value in him doing so.
Be sure to look around for offers at various bookmakers as some firms offer extra places etc.
