Hoping For Glory From What’s The Story For Dalgleish And Marquand
NAP – What’s The Story 3:00 Goodwood 20/1
My Nap of Goodwood’s Day 4 comes in the Unibet Golden Mile. Keith Dalgleish’s son of Harbour Watch ran a cracker in the John Smith’s Cup at York last time when possibly just being found out by the step up in trip to 1m2f from 1m. He is back to a mile today on his favoured quick ground, and even though he has probably hit his mark now, a chance can be taken for him to put up a bold performance with everything in his favour today. Drawn in stall 2 he should be able to hold a handy position throughout, this can be a bit of a hostage to fortune as a run will be needed as if often the case at Goodwood.
Tom Marquand takes the ride today and at 20/1 he looks a great each way bet in this competitive handicap. Some bookmakers pay as far as 6 places in races like this, to be sure to make the most of offers.
NB (Next Best) – Momkin 2:25 Goodwood 15/2
My NB of Goodwood’s Day 4 is in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes in Momkin. Roger Charlton’s son of Bated Breath has ran some good races in group company throughout the season, showing steady improvement with each run. His last run showed promise that his time could be nearing as he did well to finish as close as he did after chasing a strong pace and staying on to finish 2nd after getting outpaced. Duke of Hazzard won that race ultimately benefitting from the way that race was ran. he re opposes again and Momkin has work to do to reverse the placings but there is reason to believe that form can be turned around.
It is a race full of unexposed colts, and has produced a host of good horses over the years. It would be no surprise should one of the lighter raced types step up to the plate. I prefer to go with proven form in the book over potential and Momkin fits that bill on this occasion.
Oisin Murphy takes the ride and at 15/2, he is a fair enough price to turn around that Newmarket form with favourite Duke Of Hazzard.
