Joss’s Jewel’s Result – Goodwood Day 1 – Winning Next Best Gave Us Something To Dance About

NAP – Mountain Hunter 1:50 Goodwood (16/1 Advised) 8/1

8th

Mountain Hunter finished a strong finishing 8th in the opener at Goodwood this afternoon for Cieran Fallon and Saeed Bin Suroor. He was well backed from an advised price of 16/1 a day earlier to a starting price of 8/1 at the off. Well positioned by Fallon, he appeared to have every chance turning into the home straight but when push came to the shove he had no answer before staying on strongly when it was all too late. The race was won by David O’Meara’s Fayez, who finished with a wet sail to nail them all of with a withering late run up the inside rail under Danny Tudhope.

The wet conditions could of have been in factor for Mountain Hunter having his usually sharp turn of foot blunted and remains on the radar for when conditions are more in his favour.

NB (Next Best) – Sir Dancealot 3:00 Goodwood (13/2 Advised) 6/1

1st

David Elsworth’s Sir Dancealot gave us something to shout about when landing the Next Best in the Qatar Lennox Stakes this afternoon. It was a second Lennox Stakes for these connections as Gerald Mosse held up Sir Dancealot off a strong pace set by Donjuan Triumphant and closed menacingly to take up the running at the furlong pole to win going away. Hey Gaman filled the placings under Frankie Dettori who could not go with the winner in the closing stages and few others really got into the race with Suedois finishing 3rd.

Advised at 13/2 the day before, Sir Dancealot went off at a still fairly generous 6/1 to get followers back on the winning thread.
