Mighty Spirit could only manage 2nd today today to the progressive Mark Johnston filly Mrs Bouquet. Breaking well and travelling much the best coming into the final 2f, she seemingly started to hang her chance away once brought under pressure which brings serious doubts about her heart for the game. It was the opposite for Mrs Bouquet who kept straight and true up the near side rail and won in the style of a typical Mark Johnston gutsy type.

There were no excuses for Mighty Spirit and she is now 0 from 6 runs. It would take a brave person to put any serious money into her as win a proposition again after that performance.

I Can Fly put up a strong performance to get up for 3rd in the Qatar Sussex Stakes. Advised at 40/1 the night before, she went off just 14/1 for this race which proved to be great value for followers who took the earlier price. Held up by Donnacha O’Brien she put up a gutsy run to finish just behind high class three year olds Too Darn Hot and stablemate Circus Maximus. She remains slightly frustrating at the highest level, but she always runs her race and it would be no surprise if she put up another performance like this in a Group 1 before the season is out.
