Joss’s Jewels Result – Newmarket July Meeting – 10/1 Winning Nap
WINNER
NAP – WALKINTHESAND 1:50 NEWMARKET FRIDAY (10/1 advised) 9/1
Walkinthesand put up a strong weight carrying performance to win the valuable 1m2f bet365 handicap at Newmarket on Friday. Trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Ryan moore, he got a good position tracking the early leaders who went a fairly quick gallop for the distance. Even though he was challenged strongly in the final furlong he pulled out more to secure a gutsy 1 length win over his rivals. I imagine this horse will not be having to many more starts in handicaps in the future and is every inch a pattern performer for the end of this season and the next.
4th
NB (Next Best) – Pretty Pollyanna 4:40 Newmarket Saturday (16\1 advised) 8/1
Pretty Pollyanna ran a solid race to finish a fairly well beaten 4th in Saturdays Darley July Cup. She was slow away and gave a few lengths at the start but quickly paced up well to race with the leaders early, unfortunately she was no match for Ballydoyle’s Ten sovereigns who bounced right back to form from an underwhelming display in the Commonwealth cup at Royal Ascot. There was a solid amount of support for the Aidan O’Brien’s charge who was backed into as short as 3/1 from an opening 10/1 on the morning of the race, and the money was definitely justified as he bolted up to win by 2 3/4 lengths. According to the figures this performance puts him up there with the likes of Oasis Dream and Stravinsky as one of the best displays since the turn of the century.
As to where they go with Pretty Pollyanna now is unclear but a trip back to France for the Prix Maurice de Gheest would be the most logical next step, or even a possible tilt at the Haydock Sprint cup where she may have to re oppose Ten Sovereigns and Advertise.
