NAP – History Writer 3:40 Newmarket 40/1 E/W
My NAP this weekend is in the Bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket in History Writer. David Menuisier’s gelding by Canford Cliffs has found things a little bit tough since winning a Sandown handicap in June, but has performed with credit when not quite getting the run of things. He needs a strong pace to aim at in his races as he’s often ridden with plenty of restraint, and he is sure to get a good tow into the race from a middle draw in 14. PJ Mcdonald will have plenty of options and if the gaps appear I think he has a cracking chance of hitting the frame here at a juicy price of 40/1.
Some bookies pay extra places for this sort of race so be sure to shop around.
NB (Next Best) – Lope Y Fernandez 3:00 Newmarket 14/1 E/W
My NB this week is in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in Lope Y Fernandez. Aidan O’Briens son of Lope De Vega has seen the backside of Pinatubo on the two occasions he has been beaten before winning in good style back at 6f last time. On breeding you would not say he is an out and out sprinting two year old, but he showed plenty of pace that day and it could be a case that’s his optimum at this stage of his career. He will need to improve plenty to trouble Prix Morny winner Earthlight and Phoenix Stakes winner Siskin but this raw type may have some scope to catch up with those two.
14/1 is a fair price each way and hopefully he can put up a bold show.
