Would Be No Surprise If Great Scot Was Superior At Haydock

NAP – Great Scot 2:25 Haydock 8/1

My Nap this week is in the Bet In Play On The Betfair Exchange Superior Mile Stakes in Great Scot. Tom Dascombe’s gelded son of Requinto has promised a lot in his career but has probably not quite gone onto expectations thus far. He has ran well in competitive stakes races earlier this season including a close third in the German 2,000 Guineas and a midfield run in the Newmarket 2,000 guineas. He returned from a short break and a gelding operation last month in the Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury where he was beaten just a length when probably just needing the run. If he can build on that run, he must of good claims of going close in this contest at a course and distance he has excelled at before.

With conditions in his favour, 8/1 looks a solid each way bet for me.

NB (Next Best) – Alemagna 1:50 Haydock

My NB this weekend comes in the Better Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap in Alemagna. David Simcock’s daughter of Sea The Moon is improving every time she visits the track this season, including when well on top in a Goodwood handicap just 13 days ago.

She is an extremely stoutly bred filly who should continue to improve with time and distance, she gets 1m6f for the first time today and it would be no surprise if she could take her form to a new level for this. Alemagna is the most lightly raced horse in this race and there is a chance she may be found out for experience against more battled hardened sorts. Although I’m happy to give her a chance to prove she is well enough handicapped to overcome this and she has plenty of upside to do so with lots going for her.

Her trainer has been patient with this filly and he could start to reap the rewards with victory in this valuable contest. The recently returned Nicola Currie rides so hopefully she can come back with a bang and she looks a solid each way bet.
