Welcome Winner At Lingfield As Lunar Shadow Gets of The Mark 10/08/21
Lunar Shadow Got off the mark at Lingfield this afternoon in the Racing League On Sky Sports Racing Handicap1m4f for Alan King, She has been a little disappointing as her work has always been good. Hollie Doyle Suggested that she is still weak and will improve with time, which is a fair comment on pedigree and physical she looks like there is making up to do. The first winner for her dam The Pirates Queen was welcome and a nice update for the page. The future is bright though as TPQ's Jack Hobbs gelding realized £40,000 last week at Doncaster August sale bought by a great dual purpose trainer Brian Ellison, Lunar Bounty the full sister to lunar shadow knocked on the door at Yarmouth last week so will be winning soon and we have another full sister at foot on the farm.
Jack Hobbs X The Pirates Queen 20 Realises £40,000 @Goffs UK August Sale 05/08/21
AppleTree's homebred Jack Hobbs x The Pirates Queen 20 gelding made a cool £40,000 at Goffs UK in Doncaster on the 05/08/21. The result was fantastic for all the team. Jonny our stud groom had our 2020 gelding looking and prepared to perfection. Jack out of AppleTree's only NH mare The Pirates Queen was very popular and therefore busy throughout the 2 day sale with viewings, he also had a grade 1 scope to accompany his good physical and great movement. His reserve was set at £30,000 and although we knew Jack had been received well you can never be sure till the hammer goes down. We would like to thank all who came to see the horse including Ryan Mahon and Jerry McGrath who supported Jack in the ring with much appreciation to Brian Ellison who struck the winning bid. We wish Brian the best of luck with Jack and look forward to seeing him on a racecourse in the future.
Jack Hobbs x The Pirates Queen Gelding Lot 397 In Goffs UK August sale at Doncaster
Jack Hobbs x The Pirates Queen yearling is heading up to Doncaster Goffs UK sale next week for the August Sale selling on the second day August 5th. The gelding is a Good sized individual with scope and looks a race horse. His attitude through sales prep has been exemplary taking everything in his stride. He has a good walk with a big trot, well balanced and in my opinion is as good a NH yearling as you'll find. Jack is available for viewing prior to the sale at AppleTree by appointment before heading to the sales on Tuesday 3rd. Please do not hesitate to contact Choc Thornton on 07825235822 for a pre sale viewing.
Last Foal Of 2021, A Pretty Filly By Sea The Moon 20/05/21
Our last foal arrived at a very civilized time of 4.30pm 20/0521. A pretty filly foal out of The Pirates Queen by Sea The Moon. She is full sister to AppleTree's Lunar Bounty and Lunar Shadow both have shown ability in recent runs and look winners in waiting. We will probably retain the filly and send her into training as a 3yo, we look forward to seeing her grow and develop. The Pirates Queen will have a very well earned rest this season with a view to a possible early cover in 2022.
A Super Saturday of Firsts 09/05/21
A fantastic day of first was had yesterday. A first Double for AppleTree at Lingfield Park, including our first Listed Winner SHERBET LEMON. The day kicked off with a bang when INCHICORE (Galileo x Luas Line) trained by one of my old allies Alan King won the £20 Sports Welcome Offer At Novibet Handicap over 1m5f, bolting up by 6 lengths from stable companion Green Planet. INCHICORE loves that ground and looks like she is well capable of gaining black type in the near future and with her page is a great broodmare prospect. It was a Saturday that kept on giving as INCHICORE'S success was immediately followed by our Archie Watson trained SHERBET LEMON ( Lemon Drop kid x Famous) winning the Novibet Oaks Trial Fillies' Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) over an extended 1m3f from Roger Varian's Save A Forrest. The result was a first listed win for AppleTree. Lemon as we call her will now go straight to Epsom for the Oaks. We hope our filly has a live each way chance as she stays well, handles all conditions and has shown she can deal with an undulating track. Win loose or draw at Epsom she is of great importance and holds great value as a future broodmare prospect. I would also go as far to say that yesterdays racing was the best day I've Had since retiring from riding and AppleTree's dream is very much alive.
